Birds of a Feather at SCALE 10X
You know the saying: Birds of a feather flock together.
Got a passion you'd like to share? Have a community you'd like to connect with? Create or join a Birds of a Feather session (also known as BoFs) on either Friday or Saturday night at SCALE 10X.
The Bird of a Feather Sessions will be held Friday and Saturday nights, Jan. 20-21. The first sessions start at 7 p.m. and the last ones start at 10 p.m.
In a nutshell, a BoF session is an informal meet-up or discussion session, where SCALE attendees can get together and discuss a shared interest without a per-designated agenda.

Organizations wishing to sponsor snacks or beverages for a particular BoF session can let SCALE know by contacting sponsorship@socallinuxexpo.org . Sponsorship is not required to register for a BoF session or meetup.
Beginners Training Class
SCALE is proud to present their first ever Linux Beginner training class, an intensive, two-day training class the same weekend as the Linux Expo, co-located with the SCALE 10X at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport hotel.
Presented by volunteer trainers and presenters, students will come away with the ability to install and maintain a Linux operating system.
Cost of the class is $25, which includes a bootable USB thumb drive, handouts, and a pass to the SCALE 10X expo floor.
Attendees are expected to bring a computer suitable for installing Linux. Laptops are encouraged but desktops are acceptable also. Installations will be Linux-only. Dual-booting is beyond the scope of this class, so bring a computer you can dedicate to Linux. Specs for
the computer and other information can be found here:

Attend OSSIE with your POSSE
The 5th Annual Open Source Software in Education conference will be held at SCALE 10X on Jan. 21-22.
In addition the POSSE -- Professor’s Open Source Summer Experience – workshop will also be held at SCALE 10X. This event is focused on basic communication skills and tools that will allow educators to learn “the open source way” by navigating actual project communities. In this workshop, educators will be expected to dive into actual open source project chatrooms, code, writing, design, and infrastructure, and work with contributors from the open source
community.
