Torchlight 2 Now on Steam

Torchlight II is a dungeon crawler game that lets you chose to play as a few different classes. The basic concept is the same as nearly all dungeon crawlers: Explore, level up, find gear, beat the boss, rinse and repeat.

A few years ago I really enjoyed playing the original Torchlight. It worked great on Ubuntu. There were some shading issues with the 3D rendering making your characters faces invisible, but those little problems are of no worry in this new version. Torchlight 2 has improved almost every aspect of the original game.

About a month ago STEAM launched Torchlight 2 with linux support. The new version is cross platform multi-player supported, game saves work across all platforms, and game modding is even supported.

Installation through Steam is simple. The download was about 1GB in size. At work I have a slimline computer with a Pentium G2020 processor, 4 GB ram, and a 1GB nVidia GeForce 210 video card. Graphics are superb. It doesnt get much better than this. I even maxxed out all of the graphics settings. Game play is smooth and enjoyable. Ive just been having a fun time going deeper and deeper into the dungeons fighting new bad guys. The scenery alone is worth it. Cant wait to try multiplayer!

You can even zoom in with the mouse wheel and fight your battles up close!

Here are the recommended system specs...

  • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (or similar, Debian-based distro)
  • x86/x86_64-compatible, 2.0GHz or better processor
  • 2GB System RAM
  • 1.7 GB hard drive space (subject to change)
  • OpenGL 2.0 compatible 3D graphics card* with at least 256 MB of addressable memory (ATI Radeon x1600 or NVIDIA equivalent)
  • A broadband Internet connection (For Steam download and online multiplayer)
  • Online multiplayer requires a free Runic Account.
  • Requires Steam.

The game itself costs $20 on Steam, but you can get it a part of the Humble Bundle 14 set of games if you pay at least $6.15. If you are considering Torchlight 2, you have until April 14 when the Humble Bundle deal expires.

Torchlight II is a great hack-n-slash every fan of this type of games should own. It will entertain you for hours and hours and you will hardly repeat boring actions like farming and grinding. A must have, for such a low price.

I enjoyed this game so much I'm giving it a 5 out of 5 rating :)
